Australia's first submarine, the HMAS AE1 disappeared in Papua New Guinea (PNG) on the 14th of September 1914,
a century ago. AE1 was on patrol with HMAS Parramatta looking for German forces near the Duke of York islands.
HMAS Parramatta arrived back safely, however AE1 did not make it back to base. A century later, the fate of HMAS
AE1 and its 35 crew remains a mystery.
We invite everyone to visit http://www.ae1.org.au/ , an excellent website dedicated to the memory of the 35 crew
who lay with their ship in the depths of the Pacific Ocean. The website was created by AE 1 Incorporated (AE1 Inc.)
– a non-profit organisation pledged to locating and honouring AE1.
